Dear friends, family, clients, etc,
Cheridy and I hope that everyone that receives this is doing great!
This has definitely been a busy few months for us. Wedding season is in full swing and our high school senior portraits have been keeping us really busy too! We only have a few more weddings to go this year, so we're definitely looking forward to having more time to revamp some of our products and packages along with having more personal time to spend together and hopefully coming up with some baby names!! Cheridy won't let me name the baby Bart, Homer, or Optimus...especially if it's a girl. So...back to the drawing board! (yes, that's a joke!)

PHOTO CLASS
My next evening basic photography class will be starting shortly (September 27) so if you or anyone you know are interested, please sign up immediately through the Kensington Art School website: http://kensingtonchurch.org/ksoa/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=24

I am considering teaching another advanced photo class after the basic one finishes that will go into more advanced Photoshop techniques, digital workflow, and doing photography for profit. If anyone is interested in that, please let me know as class size will be limited to 6 people. I have not yet decided on dates/times as of yet, but names will be added to a wait list.

Metro Detroit's Best Wedding Photographers
Thanks to your votes, out of 80 photographers, Cheridy and I were recently voted Metro Detroit's Best Wedding Photographers through the WDIV vote for the best contest. You can see all the other winning business by clicking here.

We just wanted to thank you all for your votes and for the hundreds of awesome comments that you all left. We know that after 100 comments, they started getting bumped off the list, but we were able to read them all before they got bumped. So thank you for taking the time to vote and write something nice!!

The weddings that we've had over the last few months have been at some of the nicest venues in town...Meadowbrook Hall, The Royal Park Hotel, The Detroit Athletic Club, The Roostertail, Cherry Creek, etc. etc. We feel really blessed to have gotten work with such great people at amazing locations!! This has been an incredible year so far!!

A lot more information and photos are posted on our website:

Over the last few months we went through a stretch where we did many high school senior shoots as a lot of kids were trying to get them done before starting back up in school. We've done a lot of fun shoots with some of them incorporating things that were interests of theirs including ipods, cars, music, sports, specific locations, etc. Those things always help to further personalize the images and make them even more meaningful.

We had a couple of other shoots that I wanted to mention. First, we did a really fun engagement shoot with Jen and Chad who are one of our couples for a wedding next year. When the shoot was just about done, we were near a reflecting pool/fountain area and they agreed to get in the water and get soaking wet. We got a few really unique photos out of it! The funny part was that it was a really hot day and there were about 40 kids/parents there that were also playing around in the water. At one point, a little boy came up and starting kicking water on Jen and Chad...it was HILARIOUS! It was definitely a challenge to get photos without the kids in them.
You can see the rest of their engagment pics here:

The other shoot that I wanted to mention is our featured shoot for this newsletter. We did newborn photos for our friends Doug and Cynthia. They were one of our wedding clients from a few years ago, so it was really cool to be able to continue our relationship with them by doing this shoot at the next phase of their lives. Congrats you two!!

In a few months, we're hoping to have photos like this of our own baby!!! YOWZER!!
As the winter approaches and the weather gets colder, our wedding season comes to an end and we'll be looking to do more baby and young children's portrait shoots indoors. If you know anyone that is looking for some good photos of their newborns or young kids, please pass our information along!

In our personal lives, everything has been going fantastic. Cheridy's pregnancy is still coming along great! Just 9 weeks left to go!! We're definitely getting excited!!! As far as I know, there won't be any more ultrasounds because I think they only do more if they feel like something is wrong.
We just started a parenting class through our church where we're hoping to learn some methods and techniques to have a family centered life and not a child centered life. We're excited about what we will be learning in the class!

We now have a renter for our condo in Warren that we've mentioned in our past newsletter. She is a really nice woman and we're excited to have her staying in our place. We were hoping to sell it outright, but after trying for a year and a half, we figured it was better to have a renter in there than nothing.

This summer we only had one weekend off which was at the end of July. We took a road trip out to the west side of Michigan and found a hotel in South Haven that overlooked lake Michigan. Usually when we go on trips, we're always on the move and out doing stuff and seeing stuff, but this time, we opted to do nothing. We sat and read books during the day, watched the sunsets in the evening, and watched DVDs at night. It was a nice break. While out there, we were able to capture some cool boat and lighthouse scenes which is a bit different than our usual stuff.
The other photo below (the forest) was actually taken right up the road from our house at Dodge Park in Sterling Heights. It was a particularly foggy morning and my friend Ben was visting from Phoenix and him and I grabbed our cameras and took a couple photos. It was quite mosquito infested though, and the five minutes that we were there led to about 20 nice size bites, but at least a few nice photos came from it!!

An educational blurb for aspiring photographers:
Edit your pictures before showing them. If you took 100 photos and 70 of them are either blurry, crooked, the flash didn't go off, duplicates of other images, etc. etc., take those out BEFORE sending your gallery on to people for viewing. Your potential viewers will appreciate looking at 30 good ones a lot more than looking at 30 good ones mixed in with 70 other bad ones.

For anyone interested, I typically update our blog once or twice a week, so check that for more regular updates:

Thank again to all of our family, friends, and clients for your support/business!
Thanks and God Bless!
