Dear friends and family,
It's time for our latest newsletter installment. Life has been very busy. This is the time of year where we have lots of nights working until 2:30 am trying to stay caught up on everything. We enjoy the winter because life runs a bit slower for us, but we enjoy the summer because that's when we get to make our living!!
:)

We've been doing a lot of fun things so I'll get right to it:

WDIV VOTE 4 THE BEST
As many of you know, thanks to your votes last year we were voted Metro Detroits Best Photographer and we're in the running again for 2008. We're currenty in 2nd place and only down by 2% but with the thousands and thousands of votes that have been placed for the 100+ photographers listed on the site, 2% could still be a large gap, so please vote if you haven't already. If you vote, please make sure to click on the email link they send you to make your vote count.

SUMMER CONTEST WINNERS
Our 2008 family fun summer contest is over. The winners of the contest are the Tabert family and we're looking forward to doing a really fun shoot with them in the next few weeks. We'll be sure to post lots of photos once the shoot is done.

AMATEUR PHOTO CONTESTS
We're going to try instituting some amateur photo contests on our blog. The premise is that we want to promote and celebrate amateur photographers and share their work. The current contest is to submit photos of water...any kind of water. The contest winner will be posted on our blog. If the contest ends up taking off, we'll include voting for your favorite photo. However, right now it's being kept very simple. Check our blog post to learn what/how to submit an image:

High School Seniors
The season is in full swing and we're getting lots of inquiries everyday. We've done some great shoots already and are looking forward to a lot more in the next few weeks. Typically we get slammed at the end of August with everyone rushing to get it done before they go back to school. Hopefully it will be a bit more spread out this year or else I'll have to figure out how to clone myself!!!

Engagement Photos
We got to do a few more engagement shoots over the last few weeks which was great to get to know a few more of our future wedding clients. I think we only have one more engagement shoot set for 2008 clients and we've already started shooting photos for our 2009 clients. We always love to get those done as early as possible because the engagement shoot really helps build the relationship between us and our clients.

Wedding Season
This year Cheridy and I set aside a bunch of weekends so we could have a "normal people" summer and actually enjoy a few summer weekends with family and friends which is pretty rare for wedding photographers. That's always a tough decision because a large percentage of our income come from those summer weekends but now that we have Mayz, we need to be more intentional of scheduling family time. With the weekends we scheduled off and a slower than usual July, we've only had a couple weddings in the last few weeks which has been great to provide our family time along with catching up on everything else.

Below are a few highlight photos and here's a link to our wedding website: www.ArisingWeddings.com

The Honeymoon album
I'm just finishing one of the most fun and challenging projects I've done in a while. Taking amateur photos and turning them into an amazing album. One of our clients went on an incredible honeymoon to Dubai and they were interested in creating a honeymoon album to go along with their wedding album. Unfortunately the photos they had were from a 5 year old 1.2 megapixel camera and really low quality which required a significant amount of photoshop retouching. However, the end result is beautiful!!

Grand Haven
As part of our family time that we scheduled for this summer, the three of us took off for Grand Haven for a weekend. We found an amazing Bed and Breakfast right by Lake Michigan across from Grand Haven State Park beach. We really feel it was a gift from God that a room was available for us (due to a cancelation) especially since it was the beginning of their annual Coast Guard festival which means rooms book up ridiculously early.
We had a fantastic relaxing weekend together, got some great pictures of the lighthouse and sunsets and had a fun time playing with Mayz.
